The Rear Outworks originally used to be a part of the “Outworks Ruppendorf” (cf. Information board 23). It served to fulfill agricultural needs. A report from 1586 by the manor of the village Reichstädt about the Rear Outworks tells that the sheep farm was built from stone, herded 500 sheep and contained a barn made of wood with 30 oxen. It also says that there was a tree garden and that along with the outworks at the castle ruins three tons of fruit were harvested every year. It further tells that there also used to be a herb garden which provided space for three cartloads of herbs.

The Rear Outworks have been owned by the Göbel family for 328 years. The owners have been:

• 1693: Georg Zimmermann (1658 – 1722) owns the outworks with 5/4 “Hufen” (approx. 25 ha)
• 1734: Samuel Gottlieb Göbel (1703 – 1747) buys the outworks that in 1733 burned down by a lightning from the heirs of hin father-in-law
• 1752: Johann Samuel Göbel (1733 – 1807) heriditary purchase
• 1792: Johann Daniel Göbel (1772 – 1806) buys the outworks from his father
• 1823: Daniel Gottlieb Göbel (1793 – 1856) heriditary purchase from his mother Johanna and the other heirs
• unknown: Friedrich Wilhelm Göbel
• 1874: Wilhelm Gottlieb Göbel (1826 – 1887)
• 1888: Hermine Emilie Göbel
